Bold Blooms on Dresses at Debenhams and Bodens

Dries Van Noten, Kenzo, Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, and of course Miuccia Prada have all paid homage to florals. Once women regained confidence after a decade of wearing trousers, floral fashion looks have become approachable once more.
That drab, understated masculine look has been replaced by femininity. Traditional vintage and other retro floral fabrics are being used in every type of garment from coats, dresses, blouses, skirts, and even footwear.

High Street Folksy Garments

These are my favourite folksy garments from online and high street retailers for Autumn 2008. Visually, the dresses have all the Folk Boho pattern elements that capture this combination of the latest flirtation with eclectic ethnic.

Observe, the paisley feather form motifs, also the hearts, ogees, teardrops and overblown colourful flowers, often roses. Moreover, admire small, medium and large repeat motifs. Arrangements such as this mostly use border printed fabric which can be manipulated to bring pattern into an area of main focus, such as sleeves into cuffs, hemline and waistlines. Patterns flow and meander into each other making this a very feminine girl to woman look.

Leopard Print Dresses

Maxi dresses have been such a hit in summer 2008 that there is a strong trend in the autumn for the return of full length evening glamour. But, a more viable alternative for many women is a short evening or cocktail dress and furthermore, the glamour is doubled if it is made in leopard print fabric.

If you seek a short glamorous dress look no further than these two leopard print dresses from the high street. They are both a figure hugging fit and will show off the body emphasising a great neckline, a good waistline and hip curves. The first is in a traditional colourway to real leopard and the second dress uses pink and grey and is on trend with that tulip top skirt.

Animal Footwear Autumn Trends 2008/9

Ballerina flats are now a classic feminine, yet practical flat shoe that most women love. These ballerinas in animal and snakeskin materials are from the company prettyballerinas.com. Other styles they stock include contrast colourful bows, piping, buckles and squarer toes.

They also have a selection of beaded ballerinas and in fashionable autumn colours such as purple.

Yes shoe suppliers everywhere have gone wild with the variety of animal prints in footwear.
Now we are just as excited by animal print court shoes, with their statement heels of literally staggering stature. But be sure to pack those folding flats since the heel height of many autumnal styles is vertiqinous.

Leopard Print Handbags

Here we have two similar styles of leopard/cheetah hand bags, but two very different price ranges, so look to save or to splash.
Each bag is capacious enough to hold a pair of ballerinas whilst you totter about on your statement heels. Note the similarity of styling elements in the reinforced corners.

Winter White Cream, Taupe & Cocoa Mood Board

The classic fashion mood board for winter features light shades of tangerine orange and crushed brown sugars. What you also get is a warm earthy palette that soon meets cappuccino, taupes and pink based cocoa. As winter is the coldest season, these colours often are so watered down and pastel they become a tint of winter white.



Those same taupe and cocoa pink tones develop sorbet like tints when white is added to them; the resulting soft dusty hues are pretty and gently feminine.

Nautical Stripes - Colours

Stripes come in many colours, but this year offers a second bright blue as a change from navy-blue. There are also many bright striped garments in other colours, particularly red and white tops. All give greater choice for those who find navy and white too sombre.

Nautical Accessories - Skirts and Wedges

If you have legs good enough for short skirts, then this nautical dropped waist dirndl skirt will ease you through the summer. And if your legs are less than perfect, consider the many options of wearing it over longer visible net petticoats, over jeans, with bold bright tights or other legwear.

Salmon Rose

Lemon and Citrus Tones - Important Fashion Colours for 2009

As sleeves and shoulders gain even more volume, and focal point interest, then this easily becomes a style to buy into now.

Multi Colours - Fashion Trends for Spring 2009

One simple but stylish look is a tunic style shift dress, teamed with colourful tights or dressed down when worn over jeans this is a versatile choice for any occasion. Who would not feel oh so girly in this delicate wisp of a dress?

Kimono Sleeve Dresses & Tunic Kaftans

Dropped shoulder 1980s style tops, and kimono sleeve Kaftans create silhouette tunics with relaxed looks perfect for casual and comfortable relaxed summer wear. Kaftan tops are ideal with jeans, shorts or other trousers, or on the beach as cover up wear.
These short dresses use intense colour mixes, magnificent border prints to create dresses with exotic flair and mystery.
The wide kimono sleeve left is important to note as follow-on styles will be led by this look.

Kimono and loose easy Kaftan styles also feature strongly in maxi dress silhouettes. These maxi dresses are both empire line in silhouette, and follow the tiered styles set last year by Dolce and Gabbana. These examples illustrate the designer version at Gucci or the high street low cost credit crunch version from Primark. The full sleeves signal new shapes to come.

In recent years wearing hair ornaments has gained a new following. You can buy crystal tiaras from a wide range of sources and with a wide price range. Beware, not all will be the genuine Swarovski article. Make sure your crystal tiara for your special day is made from Swarovski crystal for extra sparkle. There is a wide range of tiaras available, alternatively you can commission a one of kind design from an independent designer.
Marilyn Jones of Pearls Plus makes handcrafted jewellery, bridal hair ornaments, combs and decorated hair pins using freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystal. This dainty bridal tiara is one of her Pearls Plus designs using Swarovski crystal.
One reason Marilyn likes to use Swarovski crystal, is quite simply that the beads have greater brilliance than other brands. Also the range of colours in Swarovski crystals is enormous. The very best crystals set off the richly nacre coated freshwater pearls Marilyn uses. The selected Swarovski crystals in this tiara have an aurora borealis finish. The Swarovski aurora borealis finish is renowned for catching the light and picks up nearby colours. In this case the peach background is reflected in the crystals. If the background were blue, the reflection would pick up blue tones. Just about any colour combination would be possible that you request, to match the modern trend for coloured wedding dresses.

Jardin d'Extrême - Orient

It's not difficult to see how in the Orient Jardin d'Extreme Collection, Van Cleef & Arpels have captured and replicated existing elements such as trees to give a very definite impression of imagery easily related to Bonsai.

In the luxury Serenité earrings above left, designers have reproduced the pure lines of the dry oriental gardens within the flowing curves of diamonds. Pattern and Print in Shoes Summer 2008

Wedge and chunky cone heels demand attention. Printed pattern footwear whether it be stripes, florals or patchwork is often set against raffia wedges, wooden, or Perspex heels. Gold, silver and bronze footwear is now mainstream, even for daywear. Shoe 8 centre above, is also available in silver.
